“El Alcazar” National Headquarters, Valladolid, Spain [1]
Event: Spanish far-right organization Bastion Frontal scheduled a sold-out demonstration for November 12, 2022, to mark “El Alcazar’s” tenth anniversary. The event will take place at ''El Alcazar” National Headquarters, Valladolid, Spain.[2] Bastion Frontal supporters and affiliates promoting fascist and neo-nazi ideals will almost certainly attend. Pedro Varela Greiss, a writer and Holocaust denier, will join the event, and metal bands affiliated with Bastion Frontal, like Pugilato NS Hardcore, La Revuelta RAC, Brigada Totenkopf, and Iberian Wolves, are also expected to join.[3] Italian far-right groups Aliud Torino and Torino Identitaria will also attend.[4] These groups have previously conducted riots and resorted to acts of violence, like physical assault and harassment.[5] Since militants from local and international groups attending are trained to engage in organized violence,[6] the demonstration very likely poses a security threat.
Significance: Previous Bastion Frontal demonstrations resulted in incidents with Spanish law enforcement and violent confrontations with minority groups in Valladolid,[7] making it very likely that the upcoming demonstration will turn violent. This demonstration very likely aims to reinforce neo-nazi and fascist ideologies and justify criminal acts against minority groups among like-minded individuals. Neo-nazi and fascist representatives and militants from other European countries will likely expand their support network and source of income by exchanging contact information, very likely strengthening links between neo-nazi, fascist, and far-right groups. These groups will likely target Jewish, Muslim, and LGBTQ+ communities, feminist organizations, immigrants, and refugees in Valladolid. There will very likely be vandalism of symbolic monuments or shops, with a roughly even chance of physical assault against minority communities and groups.
Recommendations
The Counterterrorism Group (CTG) recommends that Valladolid increase police presence at the site to prepare for the potentially high number of people expected to gather in Valladolid.
The residents living near or in the district of the event’s location, specifically Jewish, Muslim, and LGBTQ+ communities, as well as feminist organizations, immigrants, and refugees, should remain highly alert, report suspicious behaviors to the nearest agents, and reduce movements around the “El Alcazar” headquarters in Valladolid.
Spain’s police officers and intelligence services should monitor platforms that host fascist and neo-nazi groups, like Telegram, 8chan, and Reddit, to track any violent discourse and potential elaboration of violent attacks toward civilians or authorities.
